FAQ
Do I need to buy any hardware or tamper with our existing
studio lines/setup?
No, the text service simply calls your existing studio number
and puts the call through, just as if they had called directly.
Think of it as an operator connected call with BT for example, its
really the same setup but automated. The only change at your end
which is optional is you'll need a connection to the internet to login
to our website if you want to ban problem numbers. Most PC's are now
internet enabled anyhow.
Who's calling who and who's phone bill does it appear on?
Although your listeners perception is that your calling them,
we are calling both parties and connecting them together as a single
call, Crosby remain totally transparent. We are simply a
"middle man" connecting two people together at the same time upon a
request by text message. As we are calling both parties and operating
the facilities to do so, we charge you a fee on a per minute basis as
described below. This fee will be invoiced to you every month as charges
from Crosby to you. The listener/caller or your studio phones won't be
billed for that call and we are ringing them and you.
How do I stop abuse or reject regular callers?
Use the web interface to add their number to the ban list, set
an expiry time and that's it!, everytime they text in, we won't even
bother to ring them back, their text will be ignored until the expiry
time is reached.
Does the person texing us occur any charges?
Only the cost of 1 standard text message, just as if they had text a
friend on another mobile phone and this is charged by their mobile phone
provider as usual. They are not charged anything else.
What if they are out of credit, do it still work?
Yes as they must of had enough credit to text a call back otherwise we
would of not received their request. As we are calling them and therefore
paying for the call charges, it will still work as usual.
What if they lose signal on their phone, will your system deal with
this?
Yes, as Crosby have direct connections to all 6 UK operators, one of
the benefits of this is the low level communication and the detection of
such an event. If the caller suffered loss of signal,we would call them
back again, just as before.
