Welcome!

The environmentally friendly website you've just visited is hosted by Crosby, in its award winning data centre in Liverpool, UK. 80% of the power consumed in Crosby's data centre is generated on site, using the following sources:

Solar-Photovoltaic - Solar panels installed on the roof of our data centre, operational from daylight to nightfall, these panels cover our whole roof generating green power into our power grid.

Fuel Cell System - A Fuel cell is installed which is fed Hydrogen from gas bottles. Hydrogen is not burnt, only separated by the fuel cell, leaving the only waste product as water and heat. The heat generated is recycled to heat our offices in the winter and during the summer it helps the air conditioning keep our server rooms cool through a heat pump chiller.

Wind Turbine - A small wind turbine is installed on the side of the data centre, this generates enough power to supply over half of the data centre at 50mph wind speeds. Being 2 miles from the coast on a hill gives us strong winds most of the time.

What's next?

All together, the power sources above generate 80% of the total power consumed in our data centre, making it environmentally friendly. Our company targets are to increase this to at least 95% by the end of 2006 with additional solar panels on a new building.

This should leave Crosby with very little consumption from mains electricity, mainly using it as a backup during peak times, in fact we should smash the 100% barrier and over generate power allowing us to sell the power back to the national grid and make a small profit from it.

Now do your bit for the environment, have your website hosted by Crosby - on green power!
