IVR Integration

Let us interface your application with our SMS solution, almost any application designed can be setup to interface with our SMS and WAP services. Most services can also be administered from our on-line website. Here's an example of some ways SMS can be integrated onto an application:

  • Data captured during the call can be put into an SMS message, such as digits entered by the caller, caller ID of caller, duration of call, unique key, geographical location of caller, almost anything you want.
  • Send flashing SMS messages containing any of the above data, once received on the persons phone, the SMS message will flash on and off until the user presses stop, the message arrives straight on the screen without going to the SMS inbox to look at it or press read.
  • Using a voice trigger to start SMS mail shots, or inform subscribers of a concert/event, or general election voting etc.
  • Control your application using 2-way-SMS, start and stop your line, ask for stats, close a competition etc, all by creating a text message on your mobile with a key word and sending it to our IVR.

2-way SMS Services

Customers can request information from you by sending a keyword (e.g. WEATHER, QUOTE) to a special SMS service number. In response, your applications can compose a reply message (e.g. a stock quote or news headline) that will be sent back to the mobile user. Or you initialise competitions via SMS, poll the opinion of your customers, etc.

Here's what is needed to run 2-way-SMS:

  • You enter a mobile subscription with a network operator of your choice and provide us with the accompanying SIM card.
  • The mobile subscription will need to include foreign network roaming.
  • You send the SIM card via mail to us. We need the following information:
    • Mobile phone number
    • Name of operator
    • PIN code of your SIM card
    • PUK1 code of your SIM card
    • URL to which the incoming SMS messages should be transferred to.
  • We confirm receipt of the SIM card to you via email
  • We install the SIM card in our systems and test it. This takes up to 2 weeks. You will receive an email as soon after verification.
  • We listen to the accompanying mobile number 24/7. Each message sent to your mobile number will be translated into a call to an arbitrary CGI script you define (via HTTP or HTTP/SSL, depending on your choice).
  • The following ports can be used for the URL: 80 (http), 8080 (web cache), or 443 (https). Our system does not follow URL redirection headers (HTTP codes 30x) returned by your server.
  • The parameters which Crosby transmits to the URL via HTTP POST are:
    • ORIG (originator)
    • RECIP (recipient's mobile phone number, e.g. mobile phone number of the SIM card)
    • MSG (full message text)
  • For security reasons, our system accepts only messages that have been sent from a mobile phone to your SIM card. Messages being sent from a SMS Gateway or a web site are being rejected.
  • To send back SMS responses to mobile users, you can use our application interfaces.
  • Enhanced Messaging Service

    The Enhanced Messaging Service (EMS) is the ability to send and receive a combination of simple melodies, pictures, sounds, animations, modified text and standard text as an integrated message for display on an EMS compliant handset. Again this can be interfaced with any IVR application, being logos and ringtone lines or simply information services that you want to offer alongside voice services.

    o EMS is an enhancement to SMS but is very similar to SMS in terms of using the store and forward SMS Centres, the signalling channel and the like to realise EMS. EMS supports several simple media in standardised formats:

    Text Formatting

    EMS supports not just plain text but left, centre or right alignments of text, normal, large or small font sizes and normal, bold, italic, underlined or strikethrough text.

    Pictures

    EMS supports three picture formats: small (16 x 16 pixels), large (32 x 32 pixels) or variable sized pictures. The recommended standard is a maximum picture size of 96 x 64 pixels. This depends upon the handset vendors implementation. Pictures are black and white; there is no grey scale for shading.

    Sounds

    Within EMS, there are 10 different predefined sounds including low and high chimes and chords, Ding, TaDa, Claps, Drum and Notify. Additionally, user-defined sounds are possible which can be transferred over the air and take up to 128 bytes.

    Animations

    Moving pictures are supported by EMS, in two sizes, small (8 x 8 pixels) and large (16 x 16 pixels). Handset vendors may implement methods for repeating these animations. The standards define a number of predefined animations, relating to sadness, flirtatiousness, gladness, scepticism and grief. User-defined animations are also possible in both large and small formats.

    Technology

    o EMS has been standardised by extending the use of the long established and widely used User Data Header (UDH) common in SMS. EMS has little or no impact on today's SMS Centres. The introduction of EMS is totally transparent to SMS Centres since they already support the User Data Header.

    The principal modification to existing SMS Centres would be in the case that mobile network operators wanted to charge differently for EMS. In such a case, the SMS Centre would need to record the relevant technical values and generate Call Detail Records for billing purposes accordingly. Some network operators have indeed started investigating whether they can change their charging policy for EMS compared with SMS. They would like to charge for one enhanced message, instead of several SMS.
