Premium Rate FAQ

We are often asked common questions about premium rate numbers and services. Please look below for our most frequently asked questions. If you would like us to add something to this section please contact us.

How does a premium rate number actuality work ?

A premium rate number is like a freephone or personal number it simply rings onto a new or existing line or whatever your choice as long as it is a landline in the UK. When the number is called the caller pays a high price to call this line. All new premium rate numbers now start with 09.

How do I get paid and how often?

You will be paid by cheque or by BACS/ CHAPS transfer on the 25th of every month. You will receive your billing information on the 1st.

What if the other people calling don't pay their phone bill, do I still get paid?

In most cases you will get paid unless there has been a complaint made against your service. If someone does make a complaint against your service you will be contacted by ICSTIS to resolve the matter. For more info on the ICSTIS please see our comms guru.

How do I find out where my callers are calling from?

We will provide you free of charge, access to our website were you can look up many details of every call to your service. Please see our on-line statistics section.

If a caller pays £1.00 per min why I am I only getting £0.68p?

A small cut out of the total revenue received is paid directly to the network operator to pay for their services Then there is tax, then a very small portion paid to ICSTIS who regulate the premium rate market.

How can I find out how much I have earned without waiting till the end of the month?

You can telephone us at anytime to check the revenue on any of your services and numbers or simply logon to the on-line statistics and check your revenue.

Does my revenue share need to reach a certain amount before my cheque can be sent?

We currently have a threshold of £50.00 which has to be meet before anything is paid out. Don't worry if you don't make it the first month it just gets rolled over to the next without losing anything.

Can I keep my number for life?

As long as you pay all charges and rentals for your number(s) and don't have any complaints made about you there is no reason why you could not keep this number for life.

Can my Premium Rate Number be rung from mobiles and internationally?

Your premium rate number can be called from anywhere in the UK and from any mobile phone as long as there is not a bar in place. Some mobiles have premium rate barring activated and require additional credit checks to lift these bars. Schools, public houses and other pubic/government organisations usually also have these numbers barred for obvious reasons. Your number cannot be called internationally at the moment.

Can I have more than 1 premium rate number ringing on my service ?

You can have as many as you like all ringing on the same service or set of lines. Most people buy a block of say ten numbers so each one of these numbers can be placed in separate advertisements thought the UK which means you can monitor the response from each publication. At the end of the month you will receive a statement telling you how much you have earned of each individual number.

Is my service upgradeable if I find lots of people using it ?

Yes your service is upgradeable at anytime you wish. If you think your lines are getting busy then calls us to upgrade although provided free of charge with all systems is a call monitoring system which allows an alarm to be activated on result of heavy traffic which means we would contact you if this was to happen. If upgrading sounds expensive take a look at using our IVR System instead.

I have an idea for a premium rate service which has not been used anywhere before can you set this up for me?

Our engineers have a wide range of systems and software at their disposal so almost anything is possible just contact us for further information

Will my greetings be recorded professionally like other systems I have heard ?

Your greetings can either be recorded by yourself or for an extra fee we can provide you with professional greetings from a script you provide.

Can you ring premium rate numbers from payphones ?

Yes but it not advisable as payphone provides add a additional charge for ringing premium rate numbers and most private payphone owners bar premium rate numbers.

If a caller is on for under a min do I still get my full revenue ?

Calls to a premium rate number are charged by the second which means you will only receive a percentage of the revenue according the amount of time the caller has been connected. As soon as they reach a minute you will receive your full minute. If its a single drop number then soon as the call is connected you receive your full revenue regardless of the time connected.

What are the rules and regulations on these numbers ?

Please visit our comms guru before you connect any numbers or call the ICSTIS which is the regulating body for these type of numbers.

Can I request a cheque to be sent in a different name than the premium rate number is subscribed in?

Yes just contact us as this can be changed free of charge at anytime.

What if I want to provide a premium rate service on my own and run it myself, i.e., allow people to connect numbers through me?

No problem why not become a registered dealer of Crosby.

I like the idea of using your IVR system which will allow me to take an unlimited amount of telephone calls without having my own equipment and only costing me per min but how reliable is this system to use and what would happen if this went down?

Crosby network is based on Nokia DX220 public exchange switches. These have proved to be one of the best combination of features and cost available today, allowing us to pass considerable savings to our customers, but without compromising service levels or quality.

Our new Network Management Center at our head office in Merseyside is manned 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and provides total coverage of all services for all customers. This means that when a fault is identified, remedial action can be taken and often, the first a customer knows of a problem is when we contact them to advise them that it has been rectified.
